The Main Issue:
Of the People, by the People, for the People:
the publicly touted objective of HAVA was to make elections accessible.
Instead, it has contributed to disenfranchising masses of people in many of these United States. Lawsuits have been filed. Legislators and County Clerks have rebelled. Citizen activists are up in arms. And now we have States looking at Voter ID laws, apparently in response to the Carter-Baker Report. This page is dedicated to all of those whose votes have been lost or who are being disenfranchised by "well-meaning" but poorly conceived legislation.
The Voting Rights Act is up for renewal by Congress. Some of the Southern States are opposed to certain parts of it because they have a history of discrimination at the polls, and the Act designates them as subject to specific rules. Be sure that your voice is among those heard on this issue. No citizen of our Nation should be deprived of a vote. We are the People, a diverse group of individuals of many experiences, religions, ethnicities, abilities. Join us!
